Leonard “Big Lenny” McCarthy

Without a doubt, Morgan City's most valuable asset is the people that live here. Big Lenny is a self-taught, guitar-playing, lover of music and people. You may have seen him walking around Morgan City in the area of Railroad Avenue carrying his guitar. Or, you may have, by chance, been serenaded by an original Lenny love song. "Music helps make people smile. I love playing blues and bluegrass for people."

For Lenny, he never meets a stranger. It's pretty common to hear him calling everybody brother and sister. He says music has also helped him in restoring his relationship with his son. Lenny who struggles with his mental and emotional health says his son once told him that the only time he acts "normal" is when he's strumming his guitar. Music is Lenny's sweet escape from the pain.
