Morgan City is a mere 6.25 square miles and has more cultural influences than most big cities. Morgan City’s history is rich with Native American, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Jewish and African American heritages. Fun Facts
Did you know? Morgan City was originally named "Tiger Island" because surveyors observed a particular unknown wild cat in the area. The surveyors were appointed by US Secretary of War John Calhoun.
Did you know? Tarzan of the Apes, the screen adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's action novel published in 1912, was filmed in 1917 in Morgan City, making it the first feature-length motion picture shot on location in Louisiana.
