Gary and Judy Patton
When temperatures dip down to single digits in Illinois, Gary and Judy prefer to migrate to South Louisiana for the temperate climate. For five years, the "snow-less birds," as Gary calls them, have been calling Morgan City home for at least four months out of the year. When the weather becomes unbearable in the North, they travel to Morgan City from November 1 to March 31. And, it's not just the warm weather that keeps them returning to visit, the Pattons like the fishing spots, the people and the food. They've bonded with the locals who often invite them for cookouts and crawfish boils. For him, the spice is just right. And, for her, she prefers a medium spice. But, either way, they love eating out in the local community.
During one of their lengthy visits, Gary was diagnosed with COVID. Judy called 911 emergency services. And, to their surprise, firefighters showed up to render aid. After receiving medical treatment from the local medical facility, the firefighters arrived at the couple's RV campground site to welcome him home. Both said it's uncommon to see such treatment in Illinois, and it's one of the reasons they return year after year; the hospitality is unmatched.
