Consistent Dredging Operations on ABC
Residents of Morgan City are all too familiar with high water concerns, the high volume of fluff impacting the Atchafalaya Bar Channel in addition to fluctuating losses in commerce. In fact, those concerns have surfaced as early as 1927. But, since late 2019, the City of Morgan City has witnessed consistent dredging operations in the bar channel. As a result of Alaskan company, Brice Civil Constructors, the bar channel can accommodate larger ships and utilize dredge materials in the creation of barrier islands. In short, Morgan City welcomes a safer route for vessels, more accessibility of the expansive port and more money to pour into the local economy.
Officials including Morgan City Mayor Lee Dragna and Morgan City Port Executive Director Mac Wade were in attendance for a presentation and report of the dredge, Arulaq. The Arulaq is a specialty built dredge that is first of its kind. Furthermore, the Arulaq played a critical role in opening the Atchafalaya Bar Channel for the first time in seven years!
